The
Gargano
“Il
Gargano è il monte più vario che si possa immaginare.
Ha il suo cuore nella foresta Umbra….”
"Gargano
is the most varied mountain area one can imagine. It has its heart
in the Umbrian Forest"
G. Ungaretti

For
thousands of years the Gargano has been covered by rich and
luxuriant forests. An extraordinary landscape survives notwithstanding
the numerous public works that along the years have been disseminated
here modelling the environment.
Terraces, haystacks, stone farms, caves and such buildings are witness
to the poor rural economy, dragged on mostly by the obstinacy and
resilience of those who for years have lived and struggled for survival
on this land.
The Gargano is an old territory, abounding in myths and traditions,
and offering its visitors an incredible variety of landscapes, seascapes,
beaches, mountains, forests, towns and fine architecture.
It is a place visitable all year round.
In summer it offers the sea with its sandy beaches and small quiet
coves naturally hewn in the rocks, cool paths in the forests, besides
a number of small towns rich in history and all worth a visit.
Autumn and winter are the best months for superb excursions; in the
country and by the seaside, on foot or on horseback, on mountain bikes
or in a canoe.
